What are the Big Three?

In astrology, your Big Three are your Sun sign, Moon sign, and Rising sign — together they form the skeleton of your entire personality as the birth chart describes it. The Sun is your core identity and life direction. The Moon is your emotional world and private self. The Rising sign (Ascendant) is the impression you make and the lens through which you meet life. When someone seems 'nothing like their sign,' the answer is almost always in the other two. Your exact birth time and city are needed for the Rising sign; the Sun and Moon need only your date and time.

Big Three sign FAQ

What are the Big Three in astrology?+
Your Sun sign (core identity), Moon sign (emotional nature) and Rising sign (first impressions). Together they're considered the foundation of your personality in the birth chart.
Which of the Big Three matters most?+
All three describe different layers: the Sun is who you're becoming, the Moon is what you need, the Rising is how you appear. Many astrologers say people 'live' their Rising sign in public, their Moon in private, and grow into their Sun over a lifetime.
Why don't I relate to my Sun sign?+
Often because your Moon or Rising sign is in a very different element. A Leo Sun with a Pisces Moon and Virgo Rising experiences life very differently from a 'textbook Leo.'
Is this calculator astronomically accurate?+
Yes — it uses the same class of algorithms professional astrology software uses, calculating real planetary positions for your exact birth moment and location.
